Diet For Hypothyroidism To Lose Weight

by Marley Carley

The thyroid gland is located in the neck below your Adam's apple. Your thyroid gland governs your body's metabolic rate. This controls how rapidly your body burns energy and the sensitivity of your body to other hormones. The thyroid gland crates two hormones, T3 and T4. These are the two hormones that regulate metabolic rate. The thyroid gland needs tyrosine and iodine to produce T3 and T4. The output of the thyroid gland is further regulated by TSH which comes from the anterior pituitary gland which in turn is itself governed by TRH from the hypothalmus gland. If your thyroid gland is under active, it does not produce enough T3 and T4, this can slow your metabolic rate and make it very difficult for you to lose weight. We will identify some foods that can help make your thyroid more active, we will also identify the foods you should avoid.
A hypothyroidism diet to lose weight will be selective for certain foods that will stimulate your thyroid gland and others that you must avoid. Some of the foods you need to avoid would normally be considered wholesome foods, but they are not appropriate for those with hypothyroidism.
Your hypothyroidism diet to lose weight should include eating the following foods:
Apricots
Asparagus
Avocado
Bran
Brown Rice
Carrots
Coconut Oil
Fish
Lean Meats
Oatmeal
Olive Oil
Onions
Spinach
Sunflower Seeds
Turkey
Whole Grains

In addition, be sure that you eat a lot of foods that are rich in fiber. Eat foods that contain insoluble as well as soluble fiber. Fiber will make you feel satiated, it will reduce your appetite, and it's helpful to your thyroid gland. Natural fiber that is in foods like oatmeal and whole wheat is best.
It is also important to consume the right type of oil. Coconut oil is best, but make sure you get unprocessed organic virgin coconut oil, other types of coconut oil are processed and hydrogenated to improve shelf life, but this type of coconut oil will not provide you with the health benefits you desire. Using coconut oil regularly will help your thyroid to function more efficiently and can boost your metabolism significantly.
In addition to eating these foods it helps to increase your metabolic rate if you engage in some regular exercise. A daily workout will go a long way toward minimizing your hypothyroidism symptoms.
Foods To Avoid On Your Hypothyroidism Diet To Lose Weight
Make sure that you abstain from stimulants. Stimulants like coffee, soda, and all caffeinated beverages inhibit thyroid function. Nicotine is also a stimulant that will inhibit thyroid functioning. Alcohol can also depress your thyroid.
Try to avoid the following foods:
Cabbage
Brussel Sprouts
Cauliflower
Flax Seeds
Kale
Lima Beans
Peaches
Peanuts
Pears
Radishes
Refined Wheat
Rutabaga
Soy products
Strawberries
Sweet potatoes
These foods are problematic because they decrease the absorption of iodine, which is very important for the production of T3 and T4 in your thyroid gland.
In addition, make sure you avoid foods that are highly processed. This includes white break, pastries, cookies and many other packaged foods. Foods with a lot of added sugar or high fructose corn syrup should also be avoided, because they will affect your insulin production and in turn the functioning of your thyroid gland.
